1945 - Huge increased use of asbestos in the shipbuilding and ship repair industries

1983 - HSE Asbestos Licensing regime introduced for the removal of high risk materials

1985 - Asbestos Prohibition Regulations, banning use and importation of blue and brown asbestos

1987 - The Control of Asbestos at Work Regulations introduced to protect asbestos workers

1992 - Extensive reductions in the production of materials containing white asbestos

1998 - The Control of Asbestos At Work Regulations amended to protect the construction industry

1999 - The Asbestos Prohibition Regulations finally banned all uses of ‘white’ asbestos

2002 - The ‘Duty to Manage’ applying to all non-domestic/commercial buildings

2004 - ‘The Duty to Manage’ becomes enforceable by the HSE

2006 – The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 introduced with legal ‘new’ requirement for training

2012 - The Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 implemented with new ‘classifications’ of works
