You are most at risk when:
- You are working on an unfamiliar site. Unfamiliar sites pose unfamiliar hazards increasing your risks.
- You are working in buildings constructed before the years of 2000 or 1985. ANY building constructed or refurbished before 2000 could contain asbestos. Those constructed or refurbished before 1985 pose a higher risk, as they may have products containing blue (considered to be the most dangerous) and brown asbestos.
- Asbestos was not identified before the work starts. All asbestos within buildings MUST be identified BEFORE work commences on any refurbishment or demolition.

- Asbestos Containing materials are present but you are not informed of where they are. Some building owners may have undertaken surveys on their buildings. However, unless they inform workers or occupants the information is useless!
- You don't know how to recognise or avoid the hazards of asbestos. It is a legal requirement that you receive suitable asbestos awareness training! Without proper training any worker will be at a higher risk.
