The Work at Height Regulations 2005

In 2004/2005 53 people died and nearly 3800 suffered a serious injury as a result of a fall from height in the workplace. Falls from height are the most common cause of fatal injury and the second most common cause of major injury to employees, As a result, Falls from Height are a key priority in the HSE enforcement programme.

The new legislation states that every employer shall ensure that work at height is properly planned, appropriately supervised and carried out in a manner that is, so far as reasonably practicable, safe. It is also the duty of every employer to ensure that no person engages in any activity, including organisation, planning and supervision, in relation to work at height or work equipment for use in such work, unless he is competent to do so.
