The Regulations reflect requirements set out in the European Union Asbestos Workers’ Protection Directive. The new Regulations now include the duty that employers shall provide appropriate training for all workers who are likely to be exposed to asbestos.

This course is suitable for scaffolders whose employers hold a valid HSE licence to carry out ancillary works with asbestos removal contractors. This course provides scaffolders with knowledge and understanding of asbestos, the risks from asbestos, and ACM’s in buildings and precautions to be taken when carrying out works ancillary to asbestos removal contracts. Course content is delivered via theory and practical training methods (when applicable). The training will be carried out in accordance with the Health and Safety Executive document HSG 247 ‘chapter 4’ (modules 20-22).

Topics covered include:

Types uses and risk factors of asbestos

Health effects of exposure to asbestos

Typical locations and risks of ACM’s in buildings

Types and uses of PPE

Types and uses of RPE

Decontamination and transit procedures

Emergency procedures for dealing with accidental exposure.

This course is only offered as an in-house option, by arranging an in-house training course we come to you, by utilising in-house training it becomes considerably more cost effective, a ‘one off’ fixed price covers up to the maximum number of delegates allowed on the course, this significantly reduces individual costs per delegate.

Scaffolding contractors will require to be trained and hold a Licence to work ancillary to asbestos removal as defined by ACOP L143 'Ancillary work' means work associated with the main work of repair, removal or disturbance of asbestos. Ancillary work also includes putting up and taking down scaffolding for licensable works where there is a foreseeable risk of disturbing the asbestos during the scaffold erection.
