THE CONTROL OF ASBESTOS REGULATIONS 2006

*The requirement to carry ‘minor works’ training ACOP L143*

Textured decorative coatings (Commonly known as artex) can be worked on or disturbed for a number of reasons, including during maintenance and repair, during replacement of lights and other fittings, during removal as part of room or building refurbishment and during removal or repair following damage due to water, fire or other accidental or deliberate acts. As indicated in L143 most work with textured decorative coatings is likely only to produce sporadic and low intensity worker exposure and can be categorised as complying with regulation 3(2) as long as 3(2)(b) is fulfilled, i.e. it is clear from the risk assessment that the control limit will not be exceeded.

Topics covered include:

A brief history of the uses of asbestos

Asbestos type’s properties and risks

The effects of asbestos on workers health

The type’s uses and risks of ACM’s in buildings and  plant

This course is only offered as an in-house option, by arranging an in-house training course we come to you, by utilising in-house training it becomes considerably more cost effective, a ‘one off’ fixed price covers up to the maximum number of delegates allowed on the course, this significantly reduces individual costs per delegate.

When work with the following materials meets the definition of sporadic and low intensity worker exposure then the exemption as provided by regulation 3(2) will apply, but only if it is clear from a suitable and sufficient risk assessment that the control limit of 0.1 f/cm3 airborne fibres averaged over a 4-hour period will not be exceeded.
