The UK Asbestos Specialists Ltd Proficiency Modules in Asbestos Management training courses for 2008-2009The first UK alternative to BOHS proficiency courses!
WHY THE NEED FOR AN ALTERNATIVE….? Many clients are of the misconception that organisations like ‘BOHS’ are accredited and approved by the HSE…therefore if you need to comply with current regulations on asbestos in buildings management and CAR 2006 etc you are led to believe that you must have your training qualification and certificate emblazoned with the BOHS ‘label’ on it……well this is simply not the fact. FACT….BOHS are not accountable, audited, approved or accredited by any external body this includes The Health and Safety Executive. It is a fact that NO training provider is ever ‘approved or accredited’ ‘by the HSE, the HSE simply do not approve any training providers at all, they will only recognise certain training providers who can prove to be competent in delivering asbestos and safety related training courses. Competency of training providers is demonstrated by thorough auditing of the standard and content of the training delivered. UKASL, being a member of UKATA are independently audited to ensure we deliver the training in accordance with MDHS 100, ACoP L143 and HSG 248 as well as HSG 247 chapter 4, this gives you the added assurance that the training courses and assessments we deliver are clear, un-ambiguous and concise meeting your needs to demonstrate competency for your employees in all aspects of asbestos management. Many of our clients have experienced many problems when undertaking BOHS training courses with regards to quality and standard of course syllabus and examinations. In an attempt to remedy these problems, UKASL is the first United Kingdom Asbestos Training Association (UKATA) training organisation to offer a genuine alternative to BOHS in providing a full range of asbestos Management Proficiency training courses. Each UK Asbestos Specialists Ltd (UKasl) asbestos management proficiency module is set as a stand-alone modular-based training course programme with a typical duration of 2-4 days. The course duration may vary dependent upon evidence shown by the client that existing knowledge or qualifications of the subject (or parts thereof) can be proven, evidence of which would be requested by UKasl at the time of booking the course. Each module is in a specific and individual area of work and expertise and covers both theory and practical training in the subject area. The aim of each module is for individuals to be proficient to carry out their roles and responsibilities related to work covered by the module, or to comply with the term ‘competent’ as described within current Health and Safety Executive Regulations, ACoP’s and guidance implemented to comply with the safe management and removal of asbestos materials in buildings. Initially for 2008 all of the UKasl proficiency modules will be offered as in-house training only, this is partly due to demand from existing clients throughout England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Throughout 2009 UKasl are planning an extensive range of venue courses aimed at an open audience in the following areas; Scotland North, Scotland South, North East England, North West England, Northern Ireland, South West England, South East England and South Wales. This will be driven by proposed changes to current HSE guidance relating to management of asbestos in buildings due to be implemented in early 2009. UKasl are offering 4 proficiency modules at present, all of which hold and are accredited by the CPD Certification Service, we will add more courses to suit client and industry demand.
